Zulu Cultural Tours
Zulu Culture Tours accompanied by a Zulu Guide in an open vehicle to meet the local Zulu people, visit a real Sangoma (Spiritual Healer) - experience day-to-day activities in the township visiting local schools and churches. (Absolutely authentic with no commercialized acting). 2 hour tour is R150 and 3 hour tour is R180, lunch will be an additional R50.
Close to Hluhluwe Game Reserve is DumaZulu, a traditional Zulu village. Learn more about the fascinating Zulu way of life. Shows are held at 08.15, 11.00 and 15.15 and entrance fees are R83.00 per adult and half price per child.
The snake park at DumaZulu has 40 species from around the world as well as one of the largest crocodiles in captivity at more than 4 metres long.
Thembalethu craft village allows visitors to have the opportunity to experience basket weaving, wood carving, beading and other crafts and historical Zulu artifacts.
Shakaland is located near Eshowe and was the set for the feature Shaka Zulu. Visitors learn Zulu Traditions including basket weaving, spear and shield making, bead work and pot making. There are also sangomas (witch doctors), and vibrant Zulu dancing.
Ilala Weavers was established to restore the art of basket making and helps over 2000 Zulu people, many of whom work from home. They produce masterpieces of weaving that are sought after worldwide. There is also a basket-making section in the Eshowe museum, nearby.While here, pay a visit to Khaki Klub Clothing, a well stocked bushwear shop.
There is also a cheetah breeding project nearby. Feeding time is at 16.30 and the cost is R50.00 per adult and R25.00 per child.
